 Tournament Rules

Entry Criteria:

Players register for the tournament online at SVETennis.com

 

If more than one team for a gender/level is registered per Park, the Tournament Director may request the Park Representative to determine which team shall be considered for tournament entry.

 

In the case of more teams registered than the bracket size, the Tournament Director will determine which teams will be entered into the tournament.

 

Players should register at the level they are playing at as of January 22nd.

Brackets:

Bracket levels will be 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 75+A (3.5-up) and 75+B (2.0,2.5 & 3.0).

   

Final team bracket distributions will depend on the number of entrant teams.

 

Consolation: There will be a consolation bracket for all first round teams who lost. A team having a bye in the first round and a loss in the second round will also move into the consolation bracket.

Entry Fees:

$30.00 per person, $60.00 per team. Submit one payment per park to SVE Tennis Club

Critical Dates:

Monday, January 22, 2024 - Tournament Registration opens.

Monday, February 19, 2024 - Registration closes at 9:00pm.

Sunday, February 25, 2024 - SVE will email all Park Reps a listing of all entered tournament participants and amount due. Brackets will also be available at the SVETennis.com website.

Tuesday, February 27, 2024 - 2:00 - 4:00 PM at SVE Tennis Courts - ALL Park Reps will submit 1 payment for ALL participants unless a prior arrangement has been made.

Monday March 4, 2024 - Tournament play begins.

Location:

         Sunland Village East Tennis Courts, 2145 Farnsworth Drive, Mesa, Arizona 85209

Registration Check-in:

Players must check-in 30 minutes before their scheduled match. Check-in time for the first of the day matches is 15 minutes prior to the start of match. Teams will default after 10 minutes if they do not report for their assigned court time.

Rain Delay:

If play is suspended due to rain, play will continue as soon as the courts are deemed safe by the Tournament Director. Alternative sites may be utilized. Check the status at SVETennis.com.

Schedule of Play:

1. All players are responsible for checking the draw brackets for their scheduled match either at the draw board or SVETennis.com website.

2. All matches are 2 sets with a 3rd set match tiebreaker, if necessary.

3. All levels will play Coman Seven (7) point set tie breaker

4. All levels will play Coman Ten (10) point match tie breaker.

5. All matches will be 2nd Deuce, game point except in the finals when all deuces will be played out. 2nd Deuce game point will be receivers’ choice on which player will receive the serve. 

6. If matches are running late, the Tournament Director may require no-ad scoring and 5-5 goes to tiebreak.

Rules of Play:

         1. Players must be at least 50 years of age.

2. Players should play at the same level at which they played as of January 22nd. Players can play up one level but cannot play down (e.g., 3.0 can play with 3.5 but cannot play with a 2.0 or 4.0).

3. Substitutes will be allowed prior to the first round of play and must be made before check-in. The substitute player(s) must have the same or lower ability level. No substitutes after commencement of 1st round play.

4. Team will default after 10 minutes if they do not report to their assigned court. When a court is available early, play may start before the scheduled time except for the finals.

5. Injury time out will be limited to 10 minutes. If a player is unable to complete a match for any reason, they shall be considered in default. Teams are to play their scheduled time unless the Tournament Director designates a “Bye”.

6. Warm up is limited to 5 minutes. This includes serves.

7. Scorekeepers will be provided for all matches. Players will call their own lines (scorekeepers will not).

8. Line judges will be available upon request.

9. All 4 players must check the draw board or svetennis.com website for the next scheduled start time.

10. Courtesy and sportsmanship are expected from players and spectators.

11. Winning teams may not compete at the same level for 1 year.


Player Responsibilities:

The goal of our tournament is fairness and fun for all. Players are personally responsible to place themselves in the proper bracket for their current playing level or higher.

 

1. Players must sign a Liability Waiver at the registration desk the first day of their check-in.

2. Check-in each day at registration 30 minutes prior to your assigned playing time.  Check-in for the first of the day matches is 15 minutes prior to the start of the match.

3. Be ready to begin your match warm-up when you enter the court.

4. Enter the court as soon as the previous match ends.

5. Warm up is 5 minutes including serves and is strictly enforced to help stay on schedule. Scorekeepers are asked to notify you when there is 1 minute remaining so you can practice serves.

6. Silence cell phones!  A cell phone going off during a match may cost you a point.

7. Players must resolve disputes such as line calls, scoring, etc.  Scorekeepers keep score only.

8. At the conclusion of your match, please collect your equipment and leave the court quickly to allow the next match to begin. Please accept your congratulations or condolences from off the court.
